Singapore GP – Race Result

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on the victory in the race today, well done in a “strange” race.

The result can be found below.

Starting tires:

What a mess at the start.

Kimi, Max, Vettel’s fault or just a race incident?

.

Standings after lap 2:

Alonso manages to continue the race after the hard hit he took from Max, just after the start crash Vettel spins around and destroy the car on what seems to be cooling liquid or gear oil leaking from the damaged Ferrari.

Lap 8, Alonso has to retire the car due to the damage from the incident in the start.
Too bad, Alonso meant that the McLaren Honda was good enough for a podium today.

Lap 11, Dani Kvyat is doing exactly what we expect him to do, crash out of the race …

Lap 14/15 – Safety car in after Kvyats car has been removed from the tire barriers.

Lap 26, the track is starting dry up, and the weather-forecast is no more rain.

Lap 37, Marcus Ericsson spin on the “bridge”. This brings out the safety car again, and Lewis Hamilton loses his 9-second gap to Daniel Ricciardo.

Then the lap count down was changed to timing, two hours rule. 28 minutes to go 😉

And the winner is Lewis Hamilton!

Hamilton takes the victory at Shanghai International Circuit

Private notes:

Perez took Stroll out on the first lap, Antonio Giovinazzi did it all by himself on lap 3.

Max Verstappen is the man I had my money on for todays race, and 1/3 in to the race it is looking good.

Feel sorry for McLaren, on lap 17 Vandoorne had to return to the pit with a fuel problem.

Kvyat told to stop the car in a safe place on lap 18, looks like an hydraulic problem.

Ferrari is in very good shape in the mid part of the race and Vettel is passing the Red Bulls in second and third place.

Carlos Sainz impresses me again, I wish that we cold have him in the Williams F1 team … 🙂

Lap 34 – Alonso out of the race, drive shaft … (left side)

Makes me a bit sad to see this happening to Alonso that are so hard working.

It is great to see overtaking without DRS 🙂

Fantastic to have Ferrai back.
The 2017 season can turn out to be a very interesing one,

Sebastian Vettel take the victory in the first race of the Formula 1 2017 season!

Church’s Bells in Maranello rung the entire Sunday!

My best Italian friend is telling me:

We are aware about Mercedes power, but once in a while we can ring bells in Maranello!

Private notes:

Great job done by Grosjean, until the engine failure on lap 13.

  • Palmer follow Grosjean and retire on lap 15.
  • Marcus Ericsson DNF on lap 21 after what seams to be a hydraulic failure.
  • Daniel Ricciardo has had an terrible first race weekend at his home Grand Prix, he had to stop the car on the track at turn 3, lap 29. Possible motor failure.

Lance Stroll retires on lap 44, tough start for him.

Magnussen retire on lap 46, it has been a really bad day for Haas F1.

My "private" Notes:

Alonso and Romain reported back to the team that they was very happy with the time they achieved during Q2.

Both Toro Rosso to Q3, impressive start on the 2017 season.

Q2:

Q3 starts, Kimi is reporting on the radio that there is some very light rain.

Johnny Johnsen Sat 7:57am

Q3 – Red flag with 8 minutes to go. Daniel Ricciardo went of in turn 14. Looks like an possible gearbox change for Red Bull as long as Daniel hit the tire barrier with the back of the car first.

Mid Q3

Haas impresses me in the first qualifying of the season, still some improvements to do, but they will for sure be strong in the race tomorrow.

Early start tomorrow as well 😉

Pre-season test 2: Barcelona, Spain, 2017

Pre-season testing has now concluded, with all the teams taking part in the second four-day session this week and completing plenty of running.

Pre-season testing has now concluded, with all the teams taking part in the second four-day session this week and completing plenty of running. The fastest time of the latest session (and the whole test) was 1m18.634s, set on the final morning by Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen, using the P Zero Red supersoft tyre.

Unlike last week, there was no wet session during the second four-day test, meaning that the teams concentrated exclusively on the slick tyres from start to finish.

Mario Isola, Head of Car Racing: “During the eight days of pre-season testing, we’ve fulfilled most of the objectives that we had targeted. This week we confirmed the results of last week’s test, particularly with regard to the fast recovery of the tyres if they overheat, which was a particular wish of the drivers for the 2017 compounds. Compared to the general work we saw last week these last four days were more geared towards performance and race simulation in preparation for the season ahead. While the cars are yet to perform at their maximum potential, we saw the fastest-ever lap of Barcelona in the circuit’s current configuration this week, beating last year’s pole by more than three seconds and the 2015 pole by more than six seconds. The target of being five seconds faster than the 2015 times in Barcelona was already met last week and now that benchmark has been lowered further. Considering that many of the best times were set on compounds that are not particularly suited to Barcelona, and that the cars are sure to evolve rapidly over the course of the season, this indicates the phenomenal potential performance of the new generation of Formula 1, which we can say produces the fastest cars that the sport has ever seen.”

Pre-season test 1: Barcelona, Spain, February 27- March 2, 2017

Valtteri Bottas set a best time of 1m19.705s on ultrasoft tyres, pole time in 2015 at Barcelona was 1m24.681s.

The first four days of pre-season Formula 1 testing concluded today at the Spanish circuit of Montmelò. A total of 3185 laps were covered, that means 14.826 kms.
From Monday to Wednesday, the drivers tested the new wider slick tyres on 2017 cars for the first time. Today they also tried the wet-weather tyres on an artificially-dampened circuit, using both the full wet and intermediate.

Mario Isola, Pirelli Racing Manager: “We’re satisfied with the results of these four days. From what we can see up to now, the new product is in line with our expectations. For the 2017 season, the sport asked us to develop tyres with less degradation, which allow drivers to push to the maximum. That’s what we’ve seen during these four days of testing so far, and what we’ll continue to see in the second four-day session next week.

During the first session, the lap times have already been lowered considerably. The target was for lap times that were five seconds faster compared to Barcelona in 2015. Yesterday, Valtteri Bottas set a best time of 1m19.705s on ultrasoft tyres. Considering that the pole time in 2015 at Barcelona was 1m24.681s, I would say that this objective has been met.

Today, we also saw the new wet weather tyres on track for the first time on the 2017 cars. The combination of new dimensions and a new tread pattern means that the water expulsion capacity of the Cinturato Blue full wet tyre has gone up from 65 to 85 litres of water per second, per tyre, at 300kph. The Cinturato Green intermediate also has an increase: from 25 to 30 litres of water per second dispersed.

We’ve now collected plenty more data for our engineers to analyse ahead of the next test session that takes place from March 7-10, again in Barcelona.”
