NEW STUNNING ALL-TIME TRACK RECORD AT YAS MARINA
THANKS TO VALTTERI BOTTAS’S POLE ON ULTRASOFT FOR MERCEDES
ULTRASOFT USED FROM START TO FINISH OF THE SESSION BY ALL DRIVERS
WITH MORE THAN ONE FLYING LAP POSSIBLE ON THE SAME SET
ONE STOP WILL BE THE OPTIMAL STRATEGY FOR TOMORROW
BUT A WIDE PIT STOP WINDOW OPENS UP DIFFERENT STRATEGIES

Yas Marina, November 25, 2017

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas claimed the final pole position of the 2017 season, around 2.5 seconds faster than last year’s pole time, using the same P Zero Purple ultrasoft compound choice as one year ago. The ultrasoft was the tyre used by all the drivers from start to finish of the session, which began in daylight and then ended under the lights as the sunset. As usual here, track temperatures fell progressively during the session. A one-stop strategy will be the quickest way to run tomorrow’s race, especially with Yas Marina not being the easiest circuit to overtake on.

MARIO ISOLA – HEAD OF CAR RACING:

“Qualifying went exactly as we expected it to: there wasn’t a huge degree of track evolution and the lap record dropped further, with ultrasofts used from start to finish. The ultrasofts were, in fact, capable of more than one flying lap, which is why we saw some drivers alternating push laps with cool-down laps. We should see a one-stop ultrasoftsupersoft strategy for most drivers, but the low degradation also means that the pit stop window is pretty wide, so drivers should be able to make their stop more or less when they want to.”

Horner confirms Aston Martin deal

The relationship between Aston Martin and Red Bull began in 2016 after the two companies combined cutting edge F1 technology and Aston Martin’s signature sports car design to produce a ground breaking hypercar.

Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing confirm Aston Martin as title partner from 2018.

Eighteen months after launching an Innovation Partnership that led to the redefinition of automotive possibility with the game-changing Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, Red Bull Racing is set to similarly redefine the Formula One grid with the announcement that the iconic sports car brand Aston Martin is to become its title partner from 2018 onwards, with the team competing as ‘Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’.

The strengthened ties between the two brands are far more than a skin-deep exercise, with the expanded technical partnership taking concrete form in the shape of a new Advanced Performance Centre being established at Red Bull Racing’s campus later this year.

The new Centre will create 110 new jobs-housing Aston Martin’s design and engineering personnel responsible for future sports cars from the two companies. The new centre will allow a closer working relationship between the two leading brands in their respective fields which will see the adoption of both F1 and road car technology.

Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing said: “Our Innovation Partnership with Aston Martin has been a pioneering project from day one. Having conceived and created the remarkably successful Aston Martin Valkyrie together in 2016, we extended our relationship this year and are now delighted to further strengthen the partnership and see the team competing as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing in 2018. In addition, more than 100 Aston Martin staff will service the new Advanced Performance Centre on our campus here in Milton Keynes and it will allow us to collaborate further with Aston Martin on special, equally innovative, new projects.”

Aston Martin President and CEO, Andy Palmer, added: “Title partnership is the next logical step for our Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing. We are enjoying the global brand awareness that a revitalised Formula One provides. The power unit discussions (in Formula One) are of interest to us, but only if the circumstances are right. We are not about to enter an engine war with no restrictions in cost or dynamometer hours but we believe that if the FIA can create the right environment we would be interested in getting involved.”

The relationship between Aston Martin and Red Bull began in 2016 after the two companies combined cutting-edge F1 technology and Aston Martin’s signature sports car design to produce a groundbreaking hypercar. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is set to be the first in a line of new products to be born of this Innovation Partnership and will make its first run in 2018 before being delivered to customers in 2019.

Aston Martin will feature prominently across the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team from the start of the 2018 season.

Singapore GP – Race Result

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on the victory in the race today, well done in a “strange” race.

The result can be found below.

Starting tires:

What a mess at the start.

Kimi, Max, Vettel’s fault or just a race incident?

.

Standings after lap 2:

Alonso manages to continue the race after the hard hit he took from Max, just after the start crash Vettel spins around and destroy the car on what seems to be cooling liquid or gear oil leaking from the damaged Ferrari.

Lap 8, Alonso has to retire the car due to the damage from the incident in the start.
Too bad, Alonso meant that the McLaren Honda was good enough for a podium today.

Lap 11, Dani Kvyat is doing exactly what we expect him to do, crash out of the race …

Lap 14/15 – Safety car in after Kvyats car has been removed from the tire barriers.

Lap 26, the track is starting dry up, and the weather-forecast is no more rain.

Lap 37, Marcus Ericsson spin on the “bridge”. This brings out the safety car again, and Lewis Hamilton loses his 9-second gap to Daniel Ricciardo.

Then the lap count down was changed to timing, two hours rule. 28 minutes to go 😉

And the winner is Lewis Hamilton!

Honda and Sauber F1 Team to join forces from 2018 onwards

From 2018 the Swiss team will switch power unit supplier from Ferrari to Honda.

2017-05-01

Sunday Sauber F1 Team confirmed they will switch from Ferrari power units to Honda power units next year.

In the 25 years in Formula One anniversary season, the Swiss team is about to set another milestone in its decades-long motorsport history. The Sauber F1 Team is very pleased to welcome Honda on-board as its new technological partner from 2018. This extensive strategic and technological realignment creates a new basis for the team. This Swiss-Japanese partnership will certainly unveil future opportunities for the Sauber F1 Team and Honda, and constitutes a cornerstone for our F1 future. The Sauber F1 Team thanks Ferrari for many years of collaboration in good as well as difficult times.

Monisha Kaltenborn, CEO and Team Principal:
It is a great honor for the Sauber F1 Team to be able to work together with Honda in the coming seasons. Our realignment is not just visible through the new ownership but also now with our new technological partnership with Honda. We have set another milestone with this new engine era, which we await with huge excitement and of course we are looking for new opportunities. We very much look forward to our partnership with Honda, which sets the course for a successful future from a strategic as well as from a technological perspective. We thank Honda for making this great partnership happen.

Katsuhide Moriyama, Chief Officer, Brand and Communication Operations, Honda Motor Co., Ltd:
In addition to the partnership with McLaren which began in 2015, Honda will begin supplying power units to Sauber as a customer team starting from next year. This will be a new challenge in Hondas F1 activities. In order to leverage the benefits of supplying to two teams to the maximum extent, we will strengthen the systems and capabilities of both of our two development operations, namely HRD Sakura and the operation in Milton Keynes. We will continue our challenges so that our fans will enjoy seeing a Honda with dominant strength as soon as possible.
