Alfa Romeo is returning to Formula One after more than 30 years of absence from the sport.

Sauber F1 Team are delighted to announce that we have reached a multi-year technical and commercial partnership agreement with Alfa Romeo. The Italian car manufacturer, which is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), will be joining the Sauber F1 Team as Title Sponsor from 2018 onwards. By doing so, Alfa Romeo is returning to Formula One after more than 30 years of absence from the sport.

The partnership, which includes a strategic, commercial and technological cooperation between Alfa Romeo and the Sauber F1 Team, will enable the exchange of engineering and technical know-how, and provide new opportunities for the two organizations within Formula One and beyond. From 2018, the team will be known as the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team. The 2018 F1 car will bear the Alfa Romeo logo, and will be equipped with the 2018 Ferrari power units.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles:
“This agreement with the Sauber F1 Team is a significant step in the reshaping of the Alfa Romeo brand, which will return to Formula 1 after an absence of more than 30 years. The brand itself will also benefit from the sharing of technology and strategic know-how with a partner of the Sauber F1 Team’s undisputed experience. The Alfa Romeo engineers and technicians, who have already demonstrated their capabilities with the newly-launched models, Giulia and Stelvio, will have the opportunity to make that experience available to the Sauber F1 Team. At the same time, Alfa Romeo fans will once again have the opportunity to support an automaker that is determined to begin writing an exciting new chapter in its unique, legendary sporting history.”

We are confident that together we can bring the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team great success, and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Red Bull Racing: Taking the taste test

DURIAN FRUIT CHALLENGE

It’s known as the ‘King of Fruits’, is reckoned to be something of a delicacy, and it’s banned from most hotels across Asia. So pungently awful is the smell of a ripe, opened Durian fruit that it has been known to induce vomiting and can linger for days. Brilliant – we’re in Singapore, Max and Daniel are here, so let’s make ’em eat one then. Better still give them one each!

We dragged the boys out to a scenic deck near the Singapore circuit and presented them with two thorny, fruity problems…..

A variety of tools were provided with which the boys could attempt to get at the flesh of their Durian, including hacksaws, hammers and for some unknown reason a plastic mallet and a brace of squeaky rubber chickens.

Daniel had no problem with his Durian, but Max’s proved a tougher nut to crack. Undeterred by mother nature’s prevention plans or, indeed, logic, Max went full physical assault on his Durian and after dispensing with an ineffective hacksaw attempted the scientifically proven ‘if we throw it really hard, it might burst’ method.

Success! With both fruits opened and the deck smelling like something diabolical had passed away underneath it several weeks ago, the time had come for the taste test.

Daniel was first to go and after a couple of small retches managed to chow down on what we will say was the tiniest sliver of fruit.

“It burns! It tastes worse than it smells,” he moaned as Max laughed like a drain, or like a man surprisingly blind to the fact that he has to follow suit.

The results, which involved a lot of gagging, demands for water and a trip to the balcony railings, were not pretty.

Kudos, though, to our two intrepid heroes. Like the have-a-go daredevils they are, they looked the fearsome Durian in its spiky face and – lost. Yep, they failed big time. Horrible, evil-smelling, fruit 1 – Not very heroic racers 0.

2017 Ford GT-team vil forsvare Le Mans-seier

Fra Ford Motor Norge AS

Fire GT klare for å vinne igjen

Her er litt fakta:

Antall Le Mans-starter for Ford GT sjåførene:

Stefan Mücke -–10 (2007-2016)

Olivier Pla -–9 (2008-2016)

Richard Westbrook -–6 (2010-2014, 2016)

Dirk Müller -–5 (1999-2000, 2010-2011, 2016)

Andy Priaulx -–3 (2010-2011, 2016)

Harry Tincknell -– 3 (2014-2016)

Ryan Briscoe -–3 (2013, 2015-2016)

Joey Hand –- 2 (2011, 2016)

Pipo Derani –- 2 (2015-2016)

Scott Dixon –- 1 (2016)

Billy Johnson -– 1 (2016)
