2017 Ford GT-team vil forsvare Le Mans-seier

Fra Ford Motor Norge AS

Fire GT klare for å vinne igjen

Her er litt fakta:

Antall Le Mans-starter for Ford GT sjåførene:

Stefan Mücke -–10 (2007-2016)

Olivier Pla -–9 (2008-2016)

Richard Westbrook -–6 (2010-2014, 2016)

No. 1 – Gaularfjellet, Road Trip with my daughter.

The first video in a series that hopefully will include a lot of “dash cam” videos in the future.

This video is from the summer of 2015 when me and my daughter decided to drive Norway lengthwise. We started home in Stavanger on the west coast of Norway and drove along the cost line up to Nordkapp. The road back home was made as short as possible and went through Finland and Sweden down to Lindesnes that Norway’s southernmost lighthouse. From Lindesnes so it was not long way up to Stavanger and home.
The trip took 12 days and was absolutely fantastic, my best vacation ever.

This is the first video in a series of 14 from this trip, there is one more, but I’m not able to find the location for this so it will be posted as a “single” video later on.

In a later post I will also add some map details, more details about the trip itself and related links to some of our TripAdvisor reviews from this travel here in Norway.

From Nasjonale Turistveger, link to this page can be found below the text:

For most people Gaularfjellet is a well-kept secret, but for all those who have discovered the road it is quite special. A journey along the road leading across Gaular, the mountain between Dragsvik and the Sognefjord, is a serene experience where the quality is in the details. The drive skirts the fjord before snaking up towards the highest point of Gaularfjellet. At the rest area at Utsikten you can admire the panorama of mountains and valleys. The road follows Gaularvassdraget, one of the few watercourses that is protected, offering everything from wild rapids and waterfalls to calm stretches where the water glides quietly on its way. Simply driving along the watercourse and following the natural route the water takes in its descent is a wonderful experience, but if you go on foot you can be at one with nature.  A continuous “waterfall path” of almost 25 km has been established from Nystølen to Eldal. You can walk the entire length or just take a short stroll to admire the watercourse at close hand. For many people the bridge over the Likholefossen waterfall is a highlight, since it provides a feeling of being in the midst of the swirling cascade.

History

In 1853 a request was made for money to establish a road over the mountain, but almost 100 years would pass before this became a reality. The road swiftly became a key transport route after its opening in 1938, but today it is a peaceful alternative to the main roads that absorb most of the traffic.

PS:

We are actually planning to make this trip again this year, this time with my son and daughter, but this is not “confirmed” yet as long as there is some challenges with our work situation at the time.

I’m not sure if it is the best to use YouTube or Vimeo, if you have any thoughts or advice on this it will be appreciated.

New computer in the house

Moving from Apple to Windows

After many years with Mac this is my first day at home with a proper PC laptop. I have used PC at work for as long as I can remember, but private I shifted over to Mac 8-10 years ago. (Mac Mini and 2 x Macbook Pro 2011/2015)
For me PC at work is just that, it os old computers and old software that I wold not recommend to anybody.
But as a private person I think that the PC`s and the Microsoft software has changed a lot lately.
I know that there is a lot of people with different opinions out there, but I write this as I see it from my use and knowledge.  (or lack of this)

What I was mostly concerned to “lose” when I was leaving Mac was the track pad feeling/quality that I have been so used to on my Macbook Pro. My latest Macbook Pro is an early 2015 with the (for me) fantastic non-mechanical Force Touch trackpad. I really love the feeling this trackpad gives me.

My second concern was Lightroom, how will this work on a PC when I have only used it on my Mac for so many years?
The third concern was myself, will I be able to let the Mac go, or am I a “to big fan-boy”? I received this computer on Tuesday, and have spent two days to transfer data and to set it up in the way I want it, now I`m finally ready to start to use it as my daily driver 🙂
I already have some experience with Windows 10 as long as I have the Surface Pro 4 that I bought this summer, this has been my travel mate the last 6 months. It is good for travel and as an extra device, but for me the Surface Pro 4 can not replace every day laptop.
As long as the new Surface Book is still not available here in Norway, and that the price will be so high that I would have to wait until next summer, and that I in fact already have the Surface Pro 4 with the pen and all, my choice was between the Dell XPS 13 or the HP Spectre x360 late 2016.
Not an easy choice to start with, but after several reviews and all the videos that you can find on YouTube my choice was the …
drumbeat, although the image is there
.
.
HP Spectre x360 Late 2016 😉

The HP Spectre x360 is great, it is actually more than what I expected, and beyond what I even dared to hope for. Let`s say that I`m more than happy with my choice!

The track pad that I can see have received several not to good reviews is just fantastic, I really like it, and I do not miss the Macbook Pro track pad at all.
The keyboard is a dream, and the battery time is great.
Regarding the Lightroom, the screen here is “only” FHD so there is a difference, though this might be something that I have forgotten about in a weeks time.
This screen is more than good enough for everything else. Using LR is still the same as it was on my Mac, just slightly different, no problems what so ever.
If there is one thing I can put my finger on after just some hours of use it will be the swiping to go forward or back in the browser, I can not figure out if this is something I can activate, or if it even is available on this computer? This gesture is working perfectly on my Surface Pro 4.
Everything is working exactly the way I want after I joined the Microsoft Developer Program, recommended 🙂

I wish you all a great day and a fantastic New Year weekend 🙂

PS: The USB that is attached on the photo is my 128GB Samsung memory used for LR until I receive my new Thunderbolt 3 external HD.

Data: HP Spectre x360 13,3″ FHD touch, Core i5-7200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, Windows 10 Home.

The numbers from Pirelli`s 2016 Formula 1 season

Total number of tyres supplied in 2016: 42,792

“This has been an incredible season both on and off the track: here are a few facts and figures as a souvenir of a year that will go down in history. Pirelli has introduced a brand new compound – the ultrasoft – and also new regulations that allowed teams to use three compounds during each race, selected in advance. This extra tactical intrigue proved to be a highlight of the year, enhancing the show still further. We also had the final season of tyres with a deliberately high level of degradation, as from next year we adopt a new philosophy in line with the latest direction for the sport. At the same time as completing this season, we were testing for the next one: both using prototypes in 2016 dimensions, and then, from August, prototypes in 2017 size on adapted mule cars over 24 cumulative test days. As a result of that, and the biggest calendar ever featured in the sport, we completed a longer distance, at higher levels of performance, than has ever been seen before in the history of Formula 1.”

A dream fulfilled: Nico Rosberg ends his racing career

For the team, this is an unexpected situation but also an exciting one. We are going into a new era of technical regulations and there is a free Mercedes cockpit for the seasons ahead.

2016 FIA Formula One World Champion elect Nico Rosberg today announced that he will stop racing in Formula One with immediate effect.

Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG Petronas, F1 ; Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG Petronas, F1;

Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG Petronas, F1

In an emotional address prior to the 2016 FIA Prize Giving in Vienna, Austria, Nico revealed the reasons behind his decision, which was reached following his crowning achievement in Abu Dhabi last Sunday.

Nico has competed in a total of 206 Grands Prix and won 23 of them, placing him joint 12th on the all-time list alongside Nelson Piquet. He has scored 30 pole positions (8th all time) and 20 fastest laps.

Last Sunday in Abu Dhabi, he became the first German driver to win a Formula One World Championship at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow.

Nico Rosberg:

“Since 25 years in racing, it has been my dream, my ‘one thing’ to become Formula One World Champion. Through the hard work, the pain, the sacrifices, this has been my target. And now I’ve made it. I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right. My strongest emotion right now is deep gratitude to everybody who supported me to make that dream happen.

“This season, I tell you, it was so damn tough. I pushed like crazy in every area after the disappointments of the last two years; they fuelled my motivation to levels I had never experienced before. And of course that had an impact on the ones I love, too – it was a whole family effort of sacrifice, putting everything behind our target. I cannot find enough words to thank my wife Vivian; she has been incredible. She understood that this year was the big one, our opportunity to do it, and created the space for me to get full recovery between every race, looking after our daughter each night, taking over when things got tough and putting our championship first.

“When I won the race in Suzuka, from the moment when the destiny of the title was in my own hands, the big pressure started and I began to think about ending my racing career if I became World Champion. On Sunday morning in Abu Dhabi, I knew that it could be my last race and that feeling cleared my head before the start. I wanted to enjoy every part of the experience, knowing it might be the last time… and then the lights went out and I had the most intense 55 laps of my life. I took my decision on Monday evening. After reflecting for a day, the first people I told were Vivian and Georg (Nolte, from Nico’s management team), followed by Toto.

“The only thing that makes this decision in any way difficult for me is because I am putting my racing family into a tough situation. But Toto understood. He knew straight away that I was completely convinced and that reassured me. My proudest achievement in racing will always be to have won the world championship with this incredible team of people, the Silver Arrows.

“Now, I’m just here to enjoy the moment. There is time to savour the next weeks, to reflect on the season and to enjoy every experience that comes my way. After that, I will turn the next corner in my life and see what it has in store for me…”

Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Toto Wolff:

“This is a brave decision by Nico and testament to the strength of his character. He has chosen to leave at the pinnacle of his career, as World Champion, having achieved his childhood dream. The clarity of his judgement meant I accepted his decision straight away when he told me.

“It’s impossible to capture the essence of a person in a few short words. But Nico has a special combination of natural talent and fighting spirit that have brought him to where he is today. Throughout his career, people have thought he was on a golden path to success just because his father was a World Champion; in fact, I think in some ways that made the challenge greater – and meant he had to fight even harder with the weight of expectation on his shoulders.

“With Mercedes, Nico has been a relentless competitor, bouncing back from tough times in an inspirational way, and he earned the respect of the sport with his tenacity, his fighting spirit and his grace under pressure. Since 2010, he has poured competitive energy into our team and we have grown stronger because of it. We simply say ‘thank you’ for the incredible contribution he has made to our success, alongside two of the all-time great drivers, Michael and Lewis.

“For the team, this is an unexpected situation but also an exciting one. We are going into a new era of technical regulations and there is a free Mercedes cockpit for the seasons ahead. We will take the necessary time to evaluate our options and then find the right path for our future.”

Lynrask, kraftig hurtiglading langs Europas motorveier.

Ford Motor Norge AS – 29-11-2016 10:00 CET

FINAL DEVELOPMENT TEST ON TUESDAY AS THREE TEAMS
TRY OUT 2017 TYRES WITH MULE CARS TOGETHER

Yas Marina, November 27, 2016 – The final race in the era of deliberately high tyre degradation came to an end with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and his team mate Nico Rosberg finishing second to win the drivers’ world championship for the first time.

Both Mercedes drivers used an identical two-stop strategy, starting on the ultrasoft and then changing twice to the soft within a single lap of each other on both occasions.

A different strategy was adopted by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who used all three compounds: starting on the ultrasoft, switching to the soft and then ending the race on the supersoft. Vettel was the fastest man on the track in the closing stages, moving up the leaderboard to threaten the leaders and provide a dramatic finish to the race.

The only drivers in the top 10 not to start on the ultrasoft were the two Red Bull drivers. Despite a spin at the start of the race following contact, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was able to climb to second overall before making his single stop. Verstappen was the only one of frontrunners to stop just once, maximizing his first supersoft stint to gain track position and eventually finish fourth.

On Tuesday, the final development test for the completely new 2017 tyres will take place, with Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari all taking to the track with their modified 2015 mule cars together for the first time. The next wider generation of tyres is designed to provide less degradation, introducing a new philosophy for the technical revolution that will provide even more performance next year.

Paul Hembery, Pirelli motorsport director: “The decision taken by Red Bull yesterday to start on the supersoft was pivotal to the race today, with Max Verstappen making the most of a creative one-stop strategy to challenge the two-stoppers. Sebastian Vettel also capitalised on the performance of the supersoft to move up in the closing stages. Congratulations to Nico Rosberg for winning his first world title, and we’d also like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Felipe Massa and Jenson Button, who both ended their fantastic Formula 1 careers today. Now that the 2016 season is over, our focus already switches to next year – starting on Tuesday, when we undertake our final development test for the new 2017 wider tyres, using all three mule cars together for the first time.”

Pirelli notes from the Qualifying for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – 2016

In line with expectations, track and air temperatures dropped throughout each session, meaning that the quickest times tended to come right at the end.

TWO PIT STOPS LIKELY FOR THE RACE: STRATEGY WILL BE CRUCIAL
ON A TRACK WHERE IT IS HARD TO OVERTAKE

Yas Marina, November 26, 2016 – Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will start tomorrow’s world championship decider from pole position after setting a time of 1m38.755s on the ultrasoft tyre. This was a second and a half faster than last year’s pole, when the supersoft was the softest available compound.

In line with expectations, track and air temperatures dropped throughout each session, meaning that the quickest times tended to come right at the end. All the drivers were straight onto the ultrasoft in Q1, with the exception of the Williams drivers. Only Valtteri Bottas managed to get through to Q2 with the supersoft only.

Having gone fastest in Q1 on the ultrasoft, Hamilton lowered his benchmark in Q2 on a fresh set of the same compound, with both him and his team mate completing only one run to place first and second.

Red Bull was the only team to take an alternative approach to the Q2 session by running the supersoft, which is around 0.7 seconds slower than the ultrasoft but can last longer. Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen will start from third and sixth on the grid tomorrow: the only cars in the top 10 to begin the grand prix on the supersoft. Both Red Bull drivers completed their final Q2 runs on the ultrasoft, without improving their previous times.

The final top 10 shoot-out was mostly contested over two runs, with Hamilton’s pole time on the second run coming close to the absolute qualifying record set in 2011.

The most likely strategy tomorrow is for two pit stops, with tactics playing an important role in the race as the Yas Marina circuit is quite difficult to overtake on, as has been seen in the past here during previous championship deciders. One predictable factor should be the weather, which is expected to be similar to conditions today.

Paul Hembery, Pirelli motorsport director: “Track and air temperatures fell throughout the session, and we were also a full 11 degrees cooler on track than the FP3 session earlier in the day. In these unique conditions the ultrasoft came into its own, but there was an interesting variation in strategy from Red Bull, which has opted to start the race on the supersoft. How these different tactics play out will be a key aspect of the race and potentially the championship outcome tomorrow.”

How the tyres behaved today:

Soft: Not seen in qualifying at all but will be a vital ingredient in tomorrow’s race.

Supersoft: The talking point in qualifying, with Red Bull opting to use them in Q2.

Ultrasoft: Around 0.7s.faster than the supersoft, used for the majority of running today.
