With the Hungarian (24 th July) and German Grands Prix (31 th July) the final back-to-back race weekend is coming up before the F1 summer break. During the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, the Sauber F1 Team will again test its new rear wing, which was first introduced in Silverstone. After the absence of the German Grand Prix last season, the traditional F1 race at the Hockenheimring is back again in this years’s race calendar. Following the German Grand Prix, the Sauber F1 Team heads into the summer break – together with all the other teams for the factory shut down from 8th to 19th August.
Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
“Looking back to last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, my memories are not too bad. I was able to score one point by finishing the race in the top ten. We had a decent pace in the race, and I hope we can achieve a similar result this season. It is good that we continue our tests with the new rear in order to proceed with our aero evaluation. It will be important to compare the data we collected from Silverstone to that we will gather in Budapest. Afterwards we will head directly to the German Grand Prix. At the Hockenheimring we will continue to work on the development of the car.”
Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
“The month of July is packed with race weekends – after the Austrian and British Grands Prix we head to the last two race weekends before the summer break: The Hungarian and German Grands Prix. Last year at the Hungaroring we were stronger than expected in the race – with P11 I was close to the points. Now I am looking forward to get a first taste of the Sauber C35-Ferrari with the new rear wing. At the German Grand Prix we will continue our work to get a better understanding of the car, and how we can build on it for the second half of the season.”
Track facts Hungaroring:
The Hungaroring is a circuit where the cars are set up to carry all available downforce. The track features a sequence of flowing low to medium-speed corners with short straights. Braking stability, as well as good traction, is crucial. The limited track width does not offer many ideal lines, therefore, overtaking is difficult. This puts an emphasis on the importance of a good grid position.
