AUTOHOME roof tent

For everyone who wants to get away – and aim high: the AUTOHOME roof tent for the new MINI Countryman.

MINI Countryman arouses the spirit of discovery. With generous space for up to five occupants and their luggage as well as the optional all-wheel drive system ALL4, the latest generation of the British premium brand’s all-rounder is perfectly equipped for outings that go far beyond the limits of urban mobility and asphalted roads. And in the eventuality that not just the road comes to an end but the day, too, there is now even the option of a place to spend the night – for entirely spontaneous use. The Italian specialist AUTOHOME has expanded its product range to include a roof tent that perfectly matches both the look of the new MINI Countryman and the current MINI brand design.

A special edition of the AirTop roof tent model was designed in cooperation with the MINI Design Team and is now available directly from the manufacturer in black or white in keeping with the contrasting colours for roof and outside mirror caps for the new MINI Countryman. AUTOHOME has more than 50 years of experience in developing and making automobile roof tents and its products are used both in the leisure sector and on professional expeditions.

Mounting the mobile shelter is facilitated by the standard roof rails on the new MINI Countryman. This allows you to use the model-specific roof rail carrier – available from the MINI Shop as a MINI Original Accessory. The roof tent attachment system can be mounted on this carrier in a few easy moves without the need for tools. This roof rail carrier provides a solid foundation for the roof tent attachment, which is fixed stably and securely using the steel clamps included.

When closed, the roof tent is barely distinguishable from a conventional transport box. The aerodynamically optimised lines of its fibre-glass housing ensure a reduction in air resistance and wind noise. Opening it is simply a matter of releasing the safety clasps – two at the front and one at the rear. The tent superstructure is then automatically raised by means of four gas pressure springs.

The interior height of the mobile accommodation unit is 94 centimetres. With a stable cover and outer walls in special high-quality fabric, the tent is not only rain proof but also offers optimum ventilation properties as well as a high level of heat and noise insulation. The features of the roof tent include a high-density mattress with cotton cover, two doors and two windows with zips, close-meshed mosquito nets at all openings and a battery-operated LED interior light, as well as luggage nets and pockets to stow personal items. A solid aluminium ladder is provided to climb up onto the top floor of the MINI Countryman.

With its powerful engine, the all-wheel drive system ALL4 and a permitted towing capacity of up to 1 800 kilogrammes, the new MINI Countryman is also suitable for towing a caravan. But it is the roof tent that perfectly preserves the brand’s time-honoured principle of getting the maximum space out of a minimum surface area. The sleeping area for all those MINI fans who want to get away during the day and aim high at night measures 2.10 in length and 1.30 metres in width – sufficient to accommodate outdoor overnight stays for two. It provides a home for wherever the occupants of the new MINI Countryman happen to feel comfortable at any given time. Whether in the countryside, on the beach or in the mountains – wherever the new MINI Countryman conquers new terrain, its roof provides a tent pitch in a top location.

No. 8 Atlanterhavsvegen – “On the way to Nordkapp”

The road looks more spectacular in bad weather, on this sunny day it was just ok.

The summer of 2015 me and my daughter decided to drive from Stavanger in Norway, and all the way up to Nordkapp.

To make the trip “complete”, after visiting Nordkapp we also drove all the way down to Lindesnes in the south.

The trip was done with our family car, the Volvo V40 R Design 1,6 diesel.

This is video number 8 of 14 from our road trip back in 2015.

KM in total was 6080, the road trip took 12 days.


Situated in Norway, The Atlantic Road (in Norwegian called Atlanterhavsveien or Atlanterhavsvegen) is a part of Norwegian national road 64 (Rv 64).

It is close to the cities Molde and Kristiansund in the modest part of the Norwegian coastline. It is ranked first on The Guardian’s list of the world’s best road trips!

This fantastic and spectacular road is a very popular tourist attraction. Both the local population and tourist visitors frequently use the road to go fishing for cod and other fish directly from the bridges. One of the bridges is special designed for fishing.

BMW Group confirms additional production of BMW X1 at VDL Nedcar

Strong demand for BMW X1 worldwide makes split production necessary.

Rijswijk/Munich. As of August 2017, VDL Nedcar in Born in the Netherlands will begin production of the BMW X1. The move was jointly announced today by the BMW Group and the VDL Group. VDL Nedcar will share production of the BMW X1 for the world market with BMW Group Plant Regensburg. VDL Nedcar has built three MINI models in Born since 2014.The BMW X1 will be the fourth BMW Group model to roll off the production lines at VDL Nedcar.

Strong global demand for the BMW X1 requires additional capacity to supplement production at the BMW Group plant in Regensburg, where the second generation of this successful model has been manufactured since July 2015. With eight different models built on a single line, production volumes at BMW Group Plant Regensburg have risen significantly in recent years. As a consequence of this successful growth, the plant will share BMW X1 production with VDL Nedcar. Over its lifecycle, the main volume of the BMW X1 will still be produced in Regensburg, however.

BMW Group Plant Regensburg and VDL Nedcar are partner plants since early 2014 and have established a close and successful collaboration. VDL Nedcar has many years of experience manufacturing high-quality cars and is a trusted and reliable partner for the BMW Group production network. The involvement of VDL Nedcar as a contract manufacturer gives the BMW Group the flexibility to respond quickly to market demand for the BMW X1.

Peter Haug, Marketing Director of BMW Group Netherlands: “In the Netherlands, demand for BMW X models has been very strong, especially for the BMW X1. Last year, a total of 1,946 units were registered, making it the best sales result since the first generation was launched in 2009. In 2016, no less than 62.2 percent of all X models sold in the Netherlands (3,131 in total) were BMW X1s, which means that one in six BMW models sold was a BMW X1.”

Supersportsbilen Ford GT får fremtidens dashbord

Dashbordet i nye Ford GT er heldigitalt og skifter avhengig av kjørestil eller underlag, Det skal etter hvert også flere Ford-modeller få.

I likhet med cockpiten i et jagerfly har nye Ford GT et heldigitalt instrumentpanel i dashbordet som raskt og enkelt gir føreren informasjon basert på fem kjøremodus.

Fokus på sjåføren og dens oppmerksomhet er nøkkelen i en bil med så høy ytelse. Vi har derfor utviklet Ford GT med et avlangt digitalt instrumentpanel som endres avhengig av kjøremodus og gir sjåføren den informasjonen som under vekslende forhold og kjørestiler er viktigst for sjåføren å få, sier sjefsingeniør for Ford Performance, Jamal Hameedi.

Like før jul rullet det første eksemplaret av supersportsbilen ut av den nye fabrikken i Ontario i Canada.

Ford-ingeniører og designere har utviklet et toppmoderne 10-tommers stort digitalt panel for å sikre at kunder – under varierende kjørestiler og forhold – skal kunne ta avgjørelser bak rattet mest mulig effektivt.

Heldigitalt også i flere Ford-modeller

Etter hvert vil også andre Ford-modeller få heldigitale dashbord. Dette er et eksempel på hvordan GT går foran og innovasjonene der blir brukt i andre Ford-modeller for alle våre kunder.

De fem kjøremodusene er lett tilgjengelig via rattet, for hele tiden å kunne holde øynene på veien og hendene på rattet.

Utviklet i samarbeid med Le Mans-vinner

Hvert kjøremodus presenterer informasjonen på en skreddersydd måte til miljøet eller kjørestilen som ønskes. De fem kjøremodusene er: Normal, vått, sport, banemodus eller V-Max. Sistnevnte er skreddersydd for maksimal hastighet.

Tilpasningen av informasjonen på det digitale displayet har også skjedd i samarbeid med Le Mans-vinner Scott Maxwell.

– VI har brukt enormt mye tid på å få dette helt riktig. Resultatet er enkelt men perfekt. Å få til dette har vært en utfordring, medgir Ford GT ingeniør Nick Terzes.

Den mer enn 600 hestekrefters sterke supersportsbilen er bygget i karbon og byr på absolutt alt av det siste innen teknologi fra den amerikanske og legendariske sportsbilprodusenten. En effektiv 3.5-liters Ecoboost V6-motor sørger for kreftene i dette smykket av en bil.
Ford anslår bilens startpris før moms og avgifter til å være i overkant av 4,7 millioner norske kroner.
Allerede i år får den første norske kunden supersportsbilen Ford GT til Norge. Den ekstreme millionbilen er kjøpt av en nordmann med sans for noe av det råeste bilverdenen kan by på akkurat nå.

Abarth 124 Rally to debut in the 85th Monte Carlo Rally

Monte Carlo Rally will be staged from January 19 to 22.


  • Tree test days with Abarth Racing Team engineers for the three private crews that will be competing in the first round of the 2017 Rally World Championship.

The racing career of the new Abarth 124 Rally kicks off with a bang with the car debuting in the 85th Monte Carlo Rally, the first race of the 2017 Rally World Championship to be staged from January 19 to 22.

Three private crews have picked the new Abarth 124 Rally to take on one of the most difficult yet prestigious races in the Championship, with the goal of putting the brand with the Scorpion badge and a glorious past in the speciality back at the top. The three crews embody three different types of drivers. Frenchman Francois Delecour, with his mate Dominique Savignoni, was official driver and 1993 World Championship runner-up. He won the international FIA R-GT Cup, which is the category in which the Abarth 124 Rally is competing, in 2015. Young Fabio Andolfi, with Manuel Fenoli, is seen as one of the more promising Italian drivers. He is sponsored for the race by ACI Sport in the scope of the ACI Team Italia young driver project. Finally, Gabriele Noberasco, with Daniele Michi, is a very fast and expert gentleman driver who has won many national competitions. He has competed in the Monte Carlo Rally several times, once at the wheel of an Abarth 500 R3T.

The three drivers supported by their respective teams – the French-based Milano Racing and Bernini Rally – have conducted several specific test sessions to prepare for the Monte Carlo race on the roads near Cuneo in Italy together with racing and test driver Alex Fiorio, who worked on developing and tuning the car with the Abarth Racing Team.

Various tweaks were assessed over the three days together with the Michelin tyres that are the crucial components of a winter competition on mountain roads like those of Monte Carlo. The drivers familiarised with the new Abarth 124 Rally and its many original features. The Abarth 124 rally breaks the mould by combining excitement and technology: rear-wheel drive guarantees the spectacle, while the very high-level performance is the result of painstaking development.

It is a Group R-GT model and therefore can compete in national and international races. The Abarth 124 rally Trophy organised by Abarth will count seven rallies – six of which on road and one on dirt – all the scope of the Italian Rally Championship. In this way, Trophy contenders may also compete for the new Group R-GT Italian championship title.

The jackpot is very rich with prizes for the absolute ranking, Under 23 drivers and teams. All prizes – 5000 Euro for the winner, 4000 Euro for the team and 2000 Euro for the Under 23 drivers – are cumulative. According to regulations, prizes will be given to the first three rankings, in each race and final, in each category. The real news of the jackpot is the addition of a prize for the best ranking teams with a final jackpot of 30,000 Euro. The Under 23 winner will also be given the opportunity to compete in the 2017 Monza Rally with the official Abarth 124 rally. Other prizes include an ACI Sport Federal Super Course and a “rally master” organised directly by the Abarth Racing Team. The winner of the overall ranking will receive their own street-legal Abarth 124 spider.

The BMW Group will provide another glimpse into the interior of the future at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas with a selection of trailblazing concepts and revolutionary technology. The BMW HoloActive Touch system, for example, will be making its debut at the show. This innovative interface between the driver and vehicle acts like a virtual touchscreen; its free-floating display is operated using finger gestures and confirms the commands with what the driver perceives as tactile feedback. BMW HoloActive Touch is part of the BMW i Inside Future study, which gives visitors to the CES, taking place on 5 – 8 January 2017, an impression of the mobility experience set to be offered by seamlessly connected and autonomously-driving cars in the future.

BMW HoloActive Touch brings together the advantages of the BMW Head-Up Display, BMW gesture control and direct touchscreen operation, and adds extra features to create a unique form of user interface. For the first time, the functions can be controlled without any physical contact with materials, but the technology still enables the visible and tangible driver-vehicle interaction familiar from conventional touchscreens. BMW HoloActive Touch also allows the user to access the wide variety of services provided by BMW Connected. The seamless integration of the personal digital mobility companion is highlighted even more vividly by the extremely intuitive interaction.

BMW has developed a track record for presenting pioneering advances in the field of display and operating concepts at previous editions of the CES. The BMW gesture control technology unveiled at the show in 2015 is now available in both the new BMW 7 Series and new BMW 5 Series models. And the AirTouch system showcased at CES 2016 took things a step further; here, the user employs simple gestures made with an open hand to activate control pads on a large panoramic display in the dashboard without having to touch the control interface.

BMW HoloActive Touch takes operating these functions and interacting with the vehicle to another level. Similarly to the Head-Up Display, the image of a full-colour display is generated by clever use of reflections – but now in free-floating form within the interior rather than through projection onto the windscreen. It displays flexibly configurable control pads and is visible to the driver next to the steering wheel at the height of the centre console. A camera detects the driver’s hand movements within this ergonomically user-friendly area, and registers the position of their fingertips, in particular. As soon as a fingertip makes contact with one of these virtual control surfaces, a pulse is emitted and the relevant function is activated.

Droner som ledsager selvkjørende biler og et system som leverer drikkevann i bilen. Ingen andre bilprodusenter har levert like mange patenter som Fords ansatte i år.

Hele 1500 patenter er levert inn til amerikanske patent myndigheter i 2016. Det er en økning på hele 25% sammenlignet med fjoråret. Det er mer enn hos noen andre bilprodusenter.

– Våre ansatte leverer spennende, nye teknologier for kundene våre på et rekordhøyt nivå. Som et bil- og mobilitet selskap er det nå veldig mye som skjer, og våre ansatte leverer som aldri før på teknologi som skal hjelpe kunden til på smartest mulig måte komme seg fra et sted til et annet, sier konserndirektør for produktutvikling i Ford Motor Company, Raj Nair.

Rekordmange patentsøknader globalt

Et eksempel er et system som sender opp en drone fra en selvkjørende bil for å kartlegge områder bilen ikke får med seg. Fra kjøretøyet kan passasjeren styre dronen og få oversikt over hva som skjer langt foran kjøretøyet, om det er kø eller en ulykke.

Fords ansatte har sendt inn flere patentsøknader enn noen gang tidligere i selskapets 113-årige historie. Hele 8000 nye oppfinnelser er sendt inn fra Ford-ansatte over hele verden i løpet av 2016. Det er 40% flere enn i 2015.

Ford har også fått patent på hele 1700 oppfinnelser i andre land enn USA bare i år.

Selvkjørende rullestol og vannkran i bilen

Ford eChair er en annen nyvinning som skal gjøre livet enklere for rullestolbrukere. Når rullestolbrukeren har kommet seg ut av rullestolen og inn i bilen, kjører rullestolen av seg selv inn i bilens bagasjerom. Her kan den også kalles opp og ut igjen når rullestolbrukeren skal ut av bilen og ned i rullestolen.

Tidligere i år introduserte Ford Carr-E. Dette er en flerbruks elektrisk løsning både for person- og varetransport. Den er utviklet av Fords ingeniører i Tyskland, og kan blant annet brukes til å frakte pakker eller andre tunge gjenstander.


– Kundene tjener på at vi er åpne for nye ideer

For ytterligere å få opp innovasjonsgløden i Ford er det i samarbeid med TechShop lagt et enormt anlegg i Allen Park Michigan hvor hobbyoppfinnere og ingeniører kan møtes, bygge prototyper og utvikle nye oppfinnelser. Anlegget er fullt utstyrt med alt som skal til for å bidra til en best mulig ideutviklingsprosess.

Ford lanserte dessuten nylig et opplegg i Nanjing i Kina. Her får de ansatte tilgang på avanserte 3D-printere og annet avansert utstyr for å utvikle nye teknologier for bil og andre mobilitetsløsninger.

High-Power Charging Along Major Highways in Europe

BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the highest-powered charging network in Europe. The goal is the quick build-up of a sizable number of stations in order to enable long-range travel for battery electric vehicle drivers. This will be an important step towards facilitating mass-market BEV adoption.

The projected ultra-fast high-powered charging network with power levels up to 350 kW will be significantly faster than the most powerful charging system deployed today. The build-up is planned to start in 2017. An initial target of about 400 sites in Europe is planned. By 2020 the customers should have access to thousands of high-powered charging points. The goal is to enable long-distance travel through open-network charging stations along highways and major thoroughfares, which has not been feasible for most BEV drivers to date. The charging experience is expected to evolve to be as convenient as refueling at conventional gas stations.

The network will be based on Combined Charging System (CCS) standard technology. The planned charging infrastructure expands the existing technical standard for AC- and DC charging of electric vehicles to the next level of capacity for DC fast charging with up to 350 kW. BEVs that are engineered to accept this full power of the charge stations can recharge brand-independently in a fraction of the time of today’s BEVs. The network is intended to serve all CCS equipped vehicles to facilitate the BEV adoption in Europe.
